Nepal's National Parks covers 147,181 square km ranging from 67 m (220 ft) altitude in the south to 8,848 m (29,029 ft) at Sagarmatha. This multitude of landscapes preserves a vast biodiversity and home of 1,120 species of non-flowering plants, 5,160 species of flowering plants, 181 mammal species, 844 bird species, 100 reptile species, 43 amphibian species, 185 freshwater fish species and 635 butterfly species.

Since 1973, 20 protected areas were established by Nepal's Government. Out of which 10 are national parks, 3 are wildlife reserves, 6 are conservation areas and 1 is hunting reserve. Two national parks of Nepal are included in world heritage site. One is Sagarmatha National Park, popular for Everest Trekking where the earth's giant peak Mount Everest is situated. Second is Chitwan National Park, popular for Jungle Safari where One-horned Rhinoceros is found.
