About Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek:

Starting from Kathmandu, Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a 5 days short trek package suitable for mountain, adventure, birds and nature lovers who have limited time but interested to taste the trekking experience in Nepal. The trek is easy and can be done with children and family. Enchanting views of Mount Hiun Chuli, Annapurna South, Gangapurna, including world's highest mountain above 8000 meters, Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri are the major attraction of this trek. Sunrise views over these giant snow-capped mountains are the breathtaking lifetime experience.

On the first day of this trip, you will be driven to Pokhara Valley, 206 km in distance and can be reached within 6/7 hours drive from Kathmandu. Pokhara is a naturally richer city and the gateway of many other popular trekking routes. As you enter the Pokhara valley, the beginning views of the magnificent giant snow-capped Annapurna Massif in the northern side will be the first impression of this Ghorepani Phoon Hill Trek. Lakes, Caves, Temples, and Himalayas are the treasures of Pokhara attracting thousands of visitors each month.

Spending one overnight in this wonderful city, our journey will starts by one hour drive to the trekking starting point, Nayapul. Upon arrival, prepare yourself for hiking and commence walking to our first teahouse destination, Tikhedhunga. Dense forest including Rhododendron Trees is the attraction of this trail. Next day trek to Ghorepani.

Located 17 km from Beni, Ghorepani is a small village situated at an altitude of 2,860 meters in the northern side of Pokhara, Nepal. Poon Hill, 333 meters above Ghorepani is the viewpoint of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Range Mountains. Early in the morning, head up to the hill station "Poon Hill" to view the sunrise over magnificent snow-covered peaks. After these stunning views back to Kathmandu following the same route.

5 Days Trekking Itinerary:

  • Day 01: Drive/Fly to Pokhara  

    • Meal: x

    • Driving: 206 km, 6/7 hrs

    • Trail Attractions: Trisuli River, Malekhu Village, Mugling Village, Marshyandi River, Pokhara City

    • Max Altitude: 1300 m (Kathmandu)

    • Overnight: Hotel

      • Fly to Pokhara

The flight takes about 25–30 minutes and gives you amazing views of green hills, rice fields, and the big Himalayan mountains. There are several airliner operate flight. We’ll make sure you get to Tribhuvan international airport 1.5 hours before your flight for check-in and security check. When you land in Pokhara international airport, Yatri Nepal team will meet you and take you to your hotel, making your trip smooth and enjoyable from the start.

      • Drive to Pokhara by (Tourist bus) 

      • Taking a tourist bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara is a beautiful and fun way to see Nepal's different landscapes. The trip is about 200 kilometers long and usually takes 6 to 8 hours, depending on the roads and traffic. The bus leaves early in the morning from a special bus station in Kathmandu. The buses are nice and comfortable, with seats that lean back, air conditioning, and big windows to enjoy the view of hills, rivers, villages, and farms along the Prithvi Highway. During the trip, the bus stops a few times for meals and short breaks, so you can rest and feel refreshed. This way of traveling is more than just getting from one place to another; it's a chance to really enjoy Nepal's nature. When you arrive in Pokhara, our team will help you get to your hotel, making sure your journey is easy and enjoyable.

      • Briefing meet with your guide and trekking staff 

      • In the evening, you will meet with Yatri Nepal Adventures guide and trekking staff for a detailed briefing and preparation for your upcoming trek. During this session, Yatri Nepal guide will share important information about the trekking route, daily schedules, safety protocols, and what to expect on the trail. This is also an excellent opportunity to ask any questions, clarify doubts, and discuss any personal requirements or preferences. Additionally, the team will assist you in checking your gear and ensuring you have all the necessary equipment for the trek. This meeting is designed to help you feel confident, prepared, and excited for the adventure ahead.

  • Day 02: Drive to Nayapul & Trek to Tikhedunga.

    • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

    • Driving: 42 km, 1.30-2 hrs

    • Walking: 4 hrs

    • Trail Attractions: Beautiful Lumle Village, Modi River, Rhododendron Forest, and Birethanti Village.

      The trip from Pokhara to Nayapul starts the famous Poon Hill trek. This beautiful drive lasts around 1.5 to 2 hours and covers about 42 kilometers of lovely scenery. As you leave Pokhara, the road passes through small villages, green hills, and farms with steps, showing you the countryside. Nayapul is where your trekking adventure begins, and the amazing Annapurna region is waiting for you. No matter if you're an experienced trekker or new to it, this drive sets the mood for a wonderful trip into the Himalayas. Morning after breakfast in hotel we start ours journey.

      Nayapul to Tikhedhunga

      The walk from Nayapul to Tikhedhunga is the first part of the well-known Poon Hill trek. It usually takes about 4 to 5 hours to finish, covering around 9 kilometers. The path starts with a gentle climb along the Modi Khola River, passing by lovely villages such as Birethanti, where you'll show your permits. The trail is surrounded by beautiful green forests, terraced fields, and sometimes waterfalls, making it a scenic start to your journey. As you walk higher, you'll meet friendly local people and get to see how they live in the countryside. Tikhedhunga, a small village in the hills, has simple tea houses where you can stay overnight, giving you a good rest before you continue your trek. This part of the journey is great for getting ready and enjoying the natural beauty of the Annapurna region.

    • Day 03: Trek to Ghorepani.

      • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

      • Walking: 6 hrs

      • Trail Attractions: Ulleri Village, Magar Village, views of Mt. Machhapuchhre, Hiun Chuli, Dhailagiri, Annapurna I, and Annapurna South.

      • Max Altitude: 2,675 m (Ghorepani)

  • The hike from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani on Day 2 is tough but worth it, taking about 6–7 hours to cover around 12 kilometers. The day starts with a steep climb up the Ulleri steps, which have more than 3,000 stone steps and lead to the lovely Ulleri village. As you climb, you’ll see amazing views of the Annapurna and Machapuchare (Fishtail) mountains.

    • The path then goes through thick forests of rhododendrons and oaks, which look especially beautiful in spring when the rhododendrons are blooming. Along the way, you’ll pass small villages and hear birds singing and streams flowing.

      Arriving in Ghorepani, which is 2,874 meters high, feels like a big accomplishment. This lively village has comfortable tea houses, warm meals, and great views of the nearby mountains. It’s a perfect place to rest before your early morning walk to Poon Hill the next day.

  • Day 04: Hike to Poon Hill & back to Pokhara.

    • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

    • Walking: 7/8 hrs

    • Trail Attractions: Sunrise view from Poon Hill, and Annapurna Massif like Mt.  Annapurna I (8091m), II (7937m), III (7855m), IV (7525m), Annapurna South Mountain (729m), Nilgiri (6940m), Tukuche (6920m), Varaha Shikhar (7847m), Lamjung Himal (6931m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), and many other peaks,

    • Max Altitude: 3,180 m (Poon Hill)

    • Overnight: Hotel Pokhara

    • On the last day of the Poon Hill trek, you'll start with an early morning walk to Poon Hill (3,210 meters). This climb takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour and is worth it. At the top, you'll see a beautiful sunrise over the Himalayas, with views of mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machapuchare, and Nilgiri. After enjoying this amazing view and taking pictures, you'll go back to Ghorepani for breakfast.

      After breakfast, you'll walk downhill through green forests, rice fields, and small villages on your way to Nayapul. This walk takes about 5 to 6 hours. When you reach Nayapul, a car will take you back to Pokhara, which is about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive. In Pokhara, your guide will help you check into your hotel, making sure everything goes smoothly after your great trekking adventure.

  • Day 05: Drive back to Kathmandu.
